FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dead Static Drive Launches Today on Xbox Game Pass and PC

Grand Theft Cthulhu meets survival horror in a haunted road trip through 1980s Americana

[Melbourne, Australia – November 5th, 2025] — Indie studio Reuben Games has officially released Dead Static Drive, a stylized survival-horror road trip set in a nightmare version of 1980s America. Described by fans as “Grand Theft Cthulhu,” the game is now available on Xbox Game Pass and PC.

In Dead Static Drive, players hit the open road as Hearst, a lone traveler searching for their missing parents as the world quietly unravels around them. With a mysterious letter as their only clue, players must navigate small-town paranoia, dwindling resources, and cosmic horrors lurking behind every diner, bar, and gas station.

"We wanted to take the road trip fantasy and twist it into something personal, eerie, and deeply strange.” says Mike Blackney, creator of Dead Static Drive. "I hope people enjoy playing Dead Static Drive as much as we’ve enjoyed making it, I'm beyond thrilled to finally share it with everyone."

At its core a survival game, Dead Static Drive sees the player needing to scavenge, fight, sneak, and explore in order to stop the continuing violence of an estranged father, who has fast-spiralled into a paranoid recluse convinced technology will ruin us all.

Heavily influenced by the work of weird fiction authors T. E. D. Klein, Gene Wolfe, & Ramsey Campbell, filmmaker David Lynch, and photographer William Eggleston, Dead Static Drive hopes to invoke images of an America now lost, where with the right car and enough gas, anything felt possible.

Gameplay features:

  • Explore a surreal open world filled with tension, mystery, and danger. Steal cars, manage fuel, and survive the highways any way you can.

  • Navigate dynamic, branching narratives powered by a bespoke storytelling engine, in any order you like. Sneak, fight, or talk your way through encounters with humans and monsters alike.

  • Equip yourself and your allies and follow your own moral code through a surreal visual style inspired by VHS tapes, rustbelt decay, and neon-lit diners.

  • Encounter both human and inhuman threats as you race to stop a paranoid father’s unraveling while facing supernatural threats that twist the rules of time, memory, and identity.
