Dead Static Drive awarded VicScreen funding, announces release window

March 16, Melbourne, Australia - Local independent video game studio Reuben Games has been awarded funding from VicScreen’s Victorian Production Fund to support the development of their upcoming title Dead Static Drive.

Support from the Victorian Production Fund will empower the studio to fang it down the home stretch towards the long-awaited release of Dead Static Drive, which thanks to VicScreen, can now be confirmed for Q3 2024.

Creative Director, Mike Blackney, expressed his excitement, saying “I’m thrilled to receive this support to get the game finished, and make it everything we’ve dreamed of. I hope people enjoy playing Dead Static Drive as much as we’ve enjoyed making it, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

“The VicScreen application process was rigorous and competitive, and we’re proud our application was approved by a panel of our peers, it means so much” - Leena van Deventer, Creative Producer.

CEO of VicScreen, Caroline Pitcher said, “VicScreen is proud to support the talented team at Reuben Games and this highly anticipated project. From the irresistibly spooky storyline to the mesmerising graphics, audiences are set to be awestruck by Dead Static Drive. It’s content like this, that reinforces Melbourne’s reputation as global screen production hub, and we can’t wait for audiences to get their hands on the game next year.”

Heavily influenced by the work of weird fiction authors T. E. D. Klein, Gene Wolfe, & Ramsey Campbell, filmmaker David Lynch, and photographer William Eggleston, Dead Static Drive has been generating buzz among players and critics alike for its unique blend of horror, survival, and adventure gameplay, as well as its striking art style.

Mike Blackney began development on Dead Static Drive in 2014, before leaving his teaching role to develop the game full time in 2017. Mike continued to bring his vision to life with the help of a small team of talented developers. Leena van Deventer came onto the project as Creative Producer in 2019, and now also collaborates with Mike as writer and designer.

Dead Static Drive is coming to Xbox, Game Pass, and Microsoft Windows in Q3 2024.
